Complexity of Component Planning

One of the largest challenges encountered at Purdue was Component Planning.

A complex SAP module, Component required multiple integration points with Plant Maintenance, Inventory Management and Warehouse Management.  Using Component Planning also took many extra steps, causing confusion for much of the SAP user base and a far cry from the simplicity of the Ariba Buyer system that it replaced. 

Due to lack of understanding with its functionality, Component planning was contributing to a number of issues in both business and technical terms: lack of proper training in Component Planning causing data entry errors, field validation errors not allowing values to be entered properly (e.g. not accepting adequate pricing digits), data integration issues of work orders needed to be rekeyed before being sent, and unpaid invoices holding up orders from being placed.
