Transforming SAP Procurement at Purdue University

Background

As a leader in research and technology, Purdue undertook a massive enterprise-wise initiative called OnePurdue  – a three year ambitious effort to unify all university systems which included replacing Ariba Buyer, the existing “best of breed” procurement solution with SAP SRM. 

The decision to move to SAP SRM provided great potential. However for the effort to be successful, Purchasing would require the support of several stakeholders including Building and Grounds Management, Facilities Management and Warehouse Management. 

Challenge

Over a year after the SRM implementation was completed, Purdue was struggling to meet the demands of its internal customers.  Key business processes were essentially broken including inaccurate data integration and other configuration missteps that could not even meet basic internal requirements. 

Purdue senior management was under duress to meet even “as is” business processes, while having to promote the SAP SRM solution to an increasingly unhappy user base longing for a more user-friendly system.
